Dr. David Gill, who is looking to oppose Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) in 2018, will speak at the next meeting of Sangamon DSA on Oct. 3.
Gill first opposed Davis in 2012 and lost. In 2013, he accepted an appointment from then-Gov. Pat Quinn to the Illinois Department of Public Health and didn’t run in 2014. In 2016, he tried running as an independent but was disqualified.
His views during the 2016 campaign were fairly center-left: He was for a woman’s right to choose and against “free trade” and a tax code that favored corporate interests, but he also was for term limits.
For the 2018 election, however, he seems to have made a hard left turn. Per his campaign site, he supports:
- Campaign-finance reform
- LGBTQ rights
- Legalized marijuana
- A $15 minimum wage
- Criminal justice reform
And so on. So come out to our Oct. 3 meeting to hear what the good doctor has to say!
